食 Shoku Saturday: Croissant Taiyaki (クロワッサンたい焼)

Ok, so for the past 2 years I have been craving the Croissant Taiyaki that I had at the Gion Matsuri Festival. I finally decided to get a Taiyaki pan off of Rakuten. For this I used a custard filling recipe from allrecipes. I was running short on time, so I didn’t want to translate a recipe. Sorry!

Ingredients:

Custard Filling (Pick your favorite recipe)
Puff Pastry Dough (To make this it would require either a lot of skill or a machine. I just used store bought.)
Butter

♥If you don’t want custard filling you can use another filling like chocolate, an, etc.

Directions:

  1. Make the custard or filling and either let it cool or refrigerate it.
  2. Roll the dough so it is flat and thin.
  3. Butter both pans.
  4. Put the dough sheet in one pan so it covers the pan and push the dough down a bit where the fish have dents.
  5. Put the custard in the dents and put another dough sheet on top to cover the custard.
  6. Close the pan and put over the flame until it is brown.
  7. Take out of the pan after it is brown and cut to separate the fish.

This was delicious. Seriously, I wished my pan fit 5 fish because I kept getting a half a fish. It reminded me of the festival and I am happy I decided to just buy the pan myself.

If you make the puff pastry thin, the consistency is nearly identical to the one at the festival. I liked it a lot, I want to make it again.
